“;That is the name of the most expensive knife in the world. You are grossly mistaken if you think it is from ancient times or relates to some legend. The knife was made in the 20th century by an American from Kimberly, Nevada known as Buster Warenski. He was born in 1942 and died in 2005. He had a natural talent for knifemaking. He was also very passionate about it. Originally, knifemaking was just a hobby but he realized he could earn a living from it. When he went into the art with seriousness and commitment, he became one of the greatest knifemakers of the 20th century. He was especially famous for his “Legacy Knives”. He was also a two term vice president and director of the Knifemakers Guild..
The reputation of the knife’s maker is not the only thing responsible for the knife’s monstrously high value. The knife is a piece of outstanding workmanship. Originally made for a Japanese customer, it is said to have taken ten years to be make. Warenski made every part of the knife himself with only some assistance from his second wife Julie Warenski in making engravings. Julie had been a student of his and was therefore skilled in the craft.
The knife is loaded with precious metals. It is encrusted with 9 diamonds totalling five carats and 153 emeralds totalling ten carats. The handle is made of jade with a gold filigree accented by the emeralds and diamonds. The knife contains a total of 24 ounces of 18 karat gold. It is an awesome piece of artwork.
The Gem of the Orient was the second of the “Legacy Knives”, the first one being the “King Tut Dagger”. The dagger was a reproduction of a solid gold knife unearthed with the mummy of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
The third was what was named as “Fire and Ice”, describing the combination of rubies and diamonds. It had a handle made of rutilated quartz. It contained 24 ounces of 18 karat gold, 75 diamonds totalling 8 karats and 22 rubies totalling 4.2 karats. Warenski died before he could complete making the fourth knife of the series. Despite the other knives in the “Legacy Series” being outstanding in their workmanship also, none of them has been able to dethrone the Gem of the Orient. However, it may not be long before the reign of the Gem comes to an end. Interestingly, it is likely to be replaced by one of the other knives in the series, in particular, the “King Tut Dagger”. An offer of IS $ 1 million for it was rejected a while back. It is therefore likely that when it
is finally sold, it may fetch much more than the Gem.
The Gem is obviously not a knife for everyday use. It is a collector’s knife. It is a knife that one does not even get to use. Picture yourself slicing onions with a US $ 2 million knife. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it. It is a knife to keep under lock and key until one wants to sell it.
The Gem, like the other knives, has a unique design that is almost impossible to duplicate. This is part of the reason why it is highly valued.lt is one of the most spectacular every day items you will hear of.
