What is the world’s longest mountain? Are we looking at this from top to bottom or from side to side? If we look at it from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the mountain then you could consider two possible answers to that question. First, Mount Everest, measured to be 8,850 meters above sea level. With the highest altitude in the world which is why it is considered to be the highest mountain on earth. A mountain that has claimed many lives from those who have tried to reach the top and failed. Heights not even reachable without the aid of oxygen tanks. But, if you consider from the tip of the mountain to its base then that would make Mauna Kea the tallest in the world with over 10,000 meters tall compared to Everest’s 8,848 form tip to base.
If we want to answer what the world’s longest mountain is by looking at it in length from side to side then I would have to say it is the mid-ocean ridge. I believe this is the world’s longest mountain because it spans 40,389 miles around the world. Making it a global landmark. Yet, more then half of this mountain is under water. But, If you want to know the world’s longest mountain that is above ground then it would have to be the Andes mountain range. This mountain range is estimated to span over 4,350 miles long and about 430 miles wide. Stretching from the far northern region to the southern region in South America, and all along the west coast of many continents that include: Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and others. The Andes mountain range is made up of many rise and falls and these areas are divided into 3 groups based on climate. These groups are, Tropical Andes, Wet Andes, and Dry Andes. Now the second longest mountain range in the world is one many probably know of. The Rocky Mountains. Spanning around 3,000 miles. Running through Columbia and into Canada all the way through Wyoming and Idaho, as well as Montana and Colorado all the way down to New Mexico. It has wilderness and wildlife as well as lakes. It also has accessible trails people can hike for miles.
So in conclusion, the world’s longest mountain can be answered in many ways depending on how you look at it. from length in height or length in width. But one thing is certain, the best way to really understand a
mountain is to explore it yourself. So for all you brave adventures out there with hiking and climbing experience I hope you enjoy you exploration of the mountains and that you found this to be informative. But these mountains are not to be challenged by the faint of heart. Even hikers and climbers with years of experience and training have died trying to explore some of these mountains.
